Category: Zone BBS Suggestions and Feedback
I think I've made this suggestion informally on public qn's before, but if I also made it on this board, I'm sorry for the repeat. However, since it hasn't been addressed yet, I wanted to bring it up again.
Three zone members (that I know about) have died this year. Yet nothing in their profiles indicates they are not still active members, unless you check their last date logged in. However, I'm thinking about new zone members who might want to look up zone members in their state, or just read random profiles to see if they can find people they have something in common with, etc. These people might decide to send a PM to Bill, Lisa, Lindsey, or someone else who has passed away within the last few years. They would wonder why the person never responds. I just think some sort of notation next to their name giving info on the date of death and perhaps how long they were a zone member would be a nice idea.
oh it would. i agree with you 100 percent.
and 3 zoners?. who's the third?
i knew about lisa the littlecat and linzy b, but who is the other person
I also like this. Have passed it along.
Good idea.
I also like the idea. The third zoner that passed away this year was Bill aka blind bandit, on January 3rd.
Actually I think the number is a bit higher than 3, though I don't recall who the others were off the top of my head.
Sounds a good idea.
singer of songs, it was 4!
bmw2009, i swear time is going quick
how about a mamorial page? Maybe a list of users that have passed away?
I agree with both ideas. I definitely agree that there should be something in their profiles indicating their death. I don't think their account should be disabled, because then zoners who don't know about it might just think they were banned, but some sort of other indication.
I also agree with the memorial page. I think it should have a list of zoners who have passed away, and maybe a couple other things, such as how long they were a member, and maybe something else interesting about them. I also think their should be an option to write little comments about them, whether it was a good memory, or something as simple as "you will be missed".
The staff are presently discussing this very idea, and various incarnations of it. We have to be kind of careful, as often details of Zoners passings are not known or released, and we can't always be sure of their accuracy. However, we all do agree something like this should happen in some form. But ultimately, it is up to the admins to code and create such a page or section in a user's profile.
it is a good idea. maybe on the profile page it can be something like R.I.P, such and such, since we might not always know the exact date of a zoner to pass away or such.
the memorial idea is not too bad, but again, some zoners might not wanna be in the public attention. personally, i think a profile dedication page will be good enough.
Both ideas are pretty good, but the main challenge with both of them is what Alicia said. Given the size of the zone, you'd expect plenty of people pass away and nobody on here knows about them, but I guess if the death of a user can be confirmed, perhaps a tag can be added to their profile. Also, I know it's slightly off topic, but it's slightly disturbing to get Bill and Dave's usernames come up in who said that, but I suppose nothing can be done about that either.
I think this is a great idea.
Good idea. I think if this can be worked out, it will be a nice way to honor the deceased person. What if we had it on their profile where someone could write something nice kinda like when someone posts an announcement on the boards. It would be nice to have something on their profile where we could comment. This could be not only for new members but for anyone who was friends or family to them.
That sounds like a good idea. I didn't know Lisa died? Wow! This day has really been too much!
i like the mamorial page. like the others though, more zoners have probably passed than we know about.
the profile comments would probably work better
Having the names come up in Who Said That is unavoidable, because the game picks random users from the DB, and so has no idea who's no longer active/who no longer logs in.
This is a great idea, I'm all for it, and Omg Lisa died? I cant believe it! how did that happen?
All of these sound like good ideas. Just to see whether the admins actually decide to log in and do something for a change.
I think some indication of their passing would be good as well. A memorial page is certainly a nice idea though too.
ok sorry i'm bringing this back up but i do agree..
